Behind the Song
Hey, Cruz Fam! Welcome back to another edition of Montecruz Music’s Song of the Month. September brought us plenty of good music, but one song earned its place at the top of our list.
Without further ado, Montecruz Music presents September 2026’s Song of the Month: Toxin by Anna Duboc.
For more than a year, we’ve had the pleasure of following Anna Duboc’s musical journey. Ever since we first heard Indigo (a song that quickly became a studio favorite), we’ve been invested in what she’ll do next.
Anna has a rare gift for turning her personal emotions into engaging stories that her listeners can relate to. Her new single, Toxin, is no different. It begins with gentle acoustic guitar strumming and Anna’s soft, conversational delivery, drawing you into the narrative. The song then opens into a rich, layered chorus that shifts the track into a more indie-pop/rock sound. What makes the song even more compelling is the contrast between the upbeat pop rhythm and the vulnerable lyrics.
Toxin is vulnerable, beautifully produced, and difficult to forget. The kind of song that’ll seep through your skin.
“You’re so nice
Sometimes
Not just when I ask you to be”
