    Behind the Song

August is widely known as a month of heartbreak. As summer begins to fade, relationships are tested as matters of the heart come into focus. Some songs capture those emotions from the very first note, leaving an immediate and lasting impression. Cruz Fam, for several of us here at the studio, this month’s selection did exactly that.

Montecruz Music is excited to bring you August 2026’s Song of the Month: Hills on Fire by Kole Larsen.

Hills on Fire opens with an emotional, heartbreaking vocal performance that carries the first verse and reveals where the track’s journey will take you. One of the track’s greatest strengths lies in the simplicity of its arrangement. The vocals are the centerpiece, while the instrumentation provides a subtle backdrop that heightens the emotional impact. With each note, we could feel Kole’s pain and become further immersed in his story.

At just 2:05, Hills on Fire says everything it needs to say through its well-crafted lyrics without overstaying its welcome.

    “Everything was wrong
We set the hills on fire
    Ran into the cold
I’ve been numb for a little while”

Deine Nahe by Bunch of Ace

    Behind the Song

Welcome back, Cruz Fam. Every month, I have the opportunity to hear music from artists from all over the world. After combing through hundreds of submissions this month, one twin-sister duo stood out from the rest.

Montecruz Music proudly presents May’s Song of the Month: Deine Nähe.

Performed by sisters Alessja and Alandra, Deine Nähe immediately caught my attention from the first verse. The emotion in the vocals, the impressive instrumentation, and the memorable chorus all came together to create something truly special. As someone who doesn’t generally listen to German pop music, I was instantly intrigued. I wasn’t expecting this track to connect with me the way that it did.

Curious about the meaning behind the song, I took the time to translate the lyrics and came away even more impressed. Deine Nähe seems to explore the loneliness that can exist when a relationship fades. It captures the feeling of being physically together while being emotionally disconnected. The songwriting is thoughtful and paints a vivid picture. To hear that level of artistry from a pair of sixteen-year-old sisters makes it all the more remarkable.

    “Deine Nähe macht mich einsam
Wie ein Stern im leeren Raum.”

Translation: “Your closeness makes me lonely, like a star in empty space.”

This month, I wanted to spotlight a band that’s truly making waves with an innovative sound, blending alternative, soul, swing, and indie pop into a unique and refreshing experience. This is the type of creative ingenuity that has helped this band earn nominations for the 2026 Amadeus Austrian Music Awards.

Without further ado, Montecruz Music presents April’s Song of the Month: A Star With A Delay by Marina & The Kats.

Lyrically, the track leans into a powerful theme of self-realization, featuring the captivating vocals of Marina, whose voice is soulful, rich, and full of emotion. Paired with expressive electric guitars and jazzy drums, all driven by an infectious rhythm, the track embraces the idea that sometimes we don’t miss our moment…we simply arrive when we’re ready.

    Waiting A While by Lafferty

    Behind the Song

Hey Cruz Fam, I’m back again with March’s Song of the Month. After listening through countless tracks this month, one song rose above the rest and earned a top spot on my In the Quiet of Us playlist: Waiting A While by Lafferty.

This is easily one of the most beautiful songs I’ve heard this year. It carries an emotional depth that, for many listeners, will hit close to home.

In Lafferty’s own words, “This track is about having to walk away from someone you love and spending that one last night with them.”

The beauty of the song lies in its production. The piano gently tugs at the heartstrings while the drums and the rest of the instrumentation follow along perfectly. Lafferty’s vocal performance is raw, honest, and powerful enough to bring out a tear or two as you listen and reflect.

It’s the kind of song worth waiting a while for.

“Tell me your secret, and I’ll tell you mine. It ain’t over for me, is it over for you?”

Welcome to a new year of reviews, Cruz Fam. One song that truly captivated me this month and is more than deserving to be featured as Montecruz Music’s Song of the Month is Wild by Sole.

Sole’s vocals are absolutely stunning, giving me chills as soon as the first chorus dropped. The piano melody is beautifully simple, yet powerful enough to carry the full emotional weight of the song.
